Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can you swim in these tails?
Yes! All the tails I offer are swimmable.
  • Are these silicone?
No; at this time, all of my tails are made out of fabric.
  • What kind of fabric are these?
My tails are made out of scuba knit fabric. It is a mix of polyester and spandex.
  • Do you make tails for kids?
Not at this time. Vinyl-based tails are heavy in the water, and most children will not be able to handle the weight of one. Fabric tails are for those 18 years and older for this reason.
  • What monofins can I use in my tail?
Right now, my tails can fit the Mahina Merfin, Finis Shooter, Linden by Bodyglove, and Fish Fin monofins. All of my flukes will not fit the same monofins; specific fluke compatibility information can be requested.
  • Do I need the vinyl for swimming in my tail?
Yes, you do. The vinyl is important for keeping the shape of the fluke. Swimming without the vinyl is dangerous and not advised.
  • How do you make the designs?
First, I create a rough sketch. I then turn that rough sketch into a fully rendered digital artwork. Afterwards, the tail is printed, cut, sewn and assembled into a handmade full fabric tail.
  • How long have you been designing tails?
I have been designing mermaid tails since 2019.
  • Where are they printed?
I use a local company to assist me and print the tails at this time.
  • How much are tails?
That depends on what kind o tail you're looking for. Essence tails start at $585, Bespoke tails start at $825, and Sew-it-Yourself Kits start at $375 for Essence SIY tails, and $465 for Bespoke SIY tails.
  • Why do they cost so much?
Tails are a niche item of art, and they can take hundreds of hours to make. I pour my heart and soul into my art, so the price tag reflects this.
  • How can I get a tail?
Tails are available on a slot basis, so people that have joined the waitlist will have access to new slots first. The best way to get a fabric tail is to join the waitlist, then I will notify you when your turn to get a tail is next.
  • How do I know when you're accepting commissions?
You are free to send an email asking! I am usually able to do concept art commissions year round. For fabric tails, people that are on the waitlist will have the first access to open fabric tail slots. I announce all developments across my social media, which includes open or closed concept art commissions and fabric tail slots.
  • Do you have premade or seasonal tails?
In the future, Essence tails will be available for purchase. Essence mermaid tails are fabric tails I've already designed for you to pick from.
  • Are there preset sizes for tails?
No. At this time, all tails are made to your custom measurements.
  • Can I add fins to my fabric tail?
Yes you can. Extra fins are an added price. Pricing and fin availability will vary with the type of tail you're looking to get. You can learn more in Fabric Tails.
  • Will your prices change?
Pricing will change in the future as material costs, labor hours and other expenses increase.
  • Do you ship your tails?
Yes, I do. It is charged separately with the order of your tail.

You can get inspiration from literally everything! I suggest starting with nature, a theme, a picture you like, or color palettes you enjoy.
  • If I order a fabric tail, can I cancel it later?
Because tails are offered on a slot-by-slot basis, and sized to your custom measurements, all cancellations should happen within 48 hours of the order being processed. Otherwise, all sales are final. Refunds will not be provided for work that has already been completed, if you do decide to cancel at any point in the production process.
  • When I order a tail, how long can it take?
Please note that production does not begin until the measurements form and payment are completed. Production times will vary with the type, size and complexity of your tail.
  • Do you accept payment plans?
    Not at this time.
  • When can I get a full quote for the price of my tail?
You can get an estimate prior to a sketch if you know what you want. You will receive an exact quote after the Sketch phase is completed. Then, after the sketch is finalized, you will need to pay for your fabric tail before production can begin.

I can create scale sheets for your company or brand to use on apparel. You can email me for more information.
  • Will you copy someone's tail for me?
No, I will not purposely copy someone else's tail for you under any circumstances.
